Picks are opinions, not guarantees. Odds may have moved since publishing.

I went through both games on the NHL slate on Friday, October 23, looking for the best anytime goal props. With a two-game night, the board is short, so these three picks are worth a close look.

The picks are ranked by PropFinder's Goalscorer Matchups score, which blends a skater's own scoring form with how much the opponent's defense and goalie give up. Scores run from 0 to 100, where 50 is league average.

Cole Caufield to score a goal (+125, BetMGM)

ANYTIME GOALSCORERMTL@CHI· Oct 23, 8:00 PM ET

Cole Caufield

Anytime Goalscorer

Opposing goalie: Spencer Knight (Expected)

Cole Caufield has been hot to start the season, with 6 goals in 9 games and a 92 form score. He is putting 3.56 shots per game on net, generating 0.78 individual high-danger chances per game, and playing 19:41 a night with 3.71 minutes on the power play. His expected goals total sits at 3.28 against those 6 goals, so he is finishing well above expectation (a 17.4% shooting percentage), and some regression is possible. The sample is still only nine games.

Chicago has allowed 0.89 goals, 7.67 shots, 9.22 scoring chances and 4.89 high-danger chances per game to opposing left wingers, which makes for a good matchup and an 89 defense score. Spencer Knight is expected in net for the Blackhawks with a .888 save percentage. Caufield is +125 at BetMGM, against a median of +112 across 12 books, so the best number is a clear step above the market. A scorer this hot against a leaky defense is a fair price at plus money.

Brandon Hagel to score a goal (+182, Novig)

ANYTIME GOALSCORERTB@COL· Oct 23, 9:00 PM ET

Brandon Hagel

Anytime Goalscorer

Opposing goalie: Mackenzie Blackwood (Expected)

Brandon Hagel carries a 98 form score, the highest of the three picks, on 7 goals in 9 games. He is averaging 4.56 shots per game and 2.11 individual high-danger chances per game, both strong numbers, and he plays 21:32 a night including 4.19 minutes on the power play. His 5.44 expected goals line up with his 7 goals, so the production looks earned rather than lucky, and the sample is still just nine games.

The matchup is below average, with a 32 matchup score (50 is league average), so this pick rides on his form. Colorado allows 0.50 goals, 5.50 shots, 6.20 scoring chances and 3.20 high-danger chances per game to left wingers. Mackenzie Blackwood is expected in goal at a .888 save percentage, which gives Hagel some room. The best price is +182 at Novig, versus a median of +174 across 11 books. Elite form and power-play usage make up for the tougher defense.

Connor Bedard to score a goal (+195, BetMGM)

ANYTIME GOALSCORERMTL@CHI· Oct 23, 8:00 PM ET

Connor Bedard

Anytime Goalscorer

Opposing goalie: Jakub Dobes (Expected)

Connor Bedard has only 3 games played, so treat his numbers as a small sample. In that stretch he has 1 goal on 8 shots (2.67 per game) with 1.00 individual high-danger chances per game and 1.36 expected goals, which is right in line with his output. He still earns an 89 form score on 20:19 of ice time per game and 3.69 minutes on the power play, the kind of usage that produces chances.

The matchup is close to neutral, with a 52 matchup score (a 44 defense score and an 83 goalie score). Montreal has allowed 1.33 goals, 6.89 shots, 7.00 scoring chances and 3.22 high-danger chances per game to centers. The weak spot for the Canadiens is in goal, where Jakub Dobes is expected to start with a .847 save percentage and a .757 high-danger save percentage over 5 games. Bedard is +195 at BetMGM, with a median of +165 across 11 books. The case is a star shooter against a struggling goalie at a big price.
